Penis and scrotum problems
— investigation in Oslo and Trondheim.

Pain, swelling, changes in the scrotum or problems related to the penis and foreskin are something that many men suffer from and that affect their quality of life. Our urologist can help you uncover the cause and the right treatment.

Acute symptoms such as rapid swelling, intense pain or a hard lump in the testicle should be examined urgently in hospital. We investigate chronic and unclear scrotal and penile complaints — not acute conditions.

Common causes

Common conditions we investigate

Our urologist can help you investigate:

Tight foreskin (phimosis)

Tight foreskin can cause pain, hygiene problems, or discomfort during sexual activity. Treatment ranges from steroid creams and stretching exercises to surgical options when necessary.

Crooked penis (induratio penis plastica)

Crooked penis is a condition in which the penis bends abnormally during erection. It can be caused by congenital conditions, previous injuries or the development of scar tissue inside the penis that causes uneven bending. The condition can cause pain during erection and affect sexual function. We offer assessment and guidance on current treatment options.

Short penis string (frenulum breve)

A shorter-than-normal string on the underside of the glans penis can limit the movement of the foreskin and cause pain during sexual activity. The condition can be treated with minor surgery or other measures to improve comfort.

Balanitis

Balanitis is an inflammation of the glans penis that causes redness, swelling, and pain. The cause may be a fungal infection, bacteria, or irritation from soap and other chemicals. Treatment is directed at the cause and may include medication and improved hygiene. If an underlying condition is suspected, the urologist will consider further investigation.

Growths on the penis

Penile growths vary in type and cause and should always be evaluated by a doctor for proper diagnosis. Common types include Fordyce spots (harmless sebaceous glands that produce white or yellow dots), genital warts caused by HPV, and in rare cases, signs of penile cancer. Proper evaluation is essential for choosing the right treatment.

Varicose veins in the scrotum (variocele)

Dilated blood vessels in the scrotum typically cause a feeling of heaviness or aching discomfort, especially after physical activity. In some men, varicocele can affect sperm quality and is relevant to be investigated if you want to have children.

Hydrocele

Fluid accumulation around the testicle is the most common cause of swelling in the scrotum. The condition is benign, but can cause discomfort. We assess the need for treatment based on the extent and symptoms.

Spermatocele

A cyst on the epididymis is very common and usually harmless. We will examine it and determine whether treatment is appropriate.
