What works and what doesn't? Ask Cochrane!

Who is Cochrane? Archie Cochrane was a doctor and researcher who criticized the medical profession for not having “cleaned up the archives.” Research was being pushed out, without anyone bothering to find out what had already been done, what was good research, and which treatments were generally beneficial (Eiring 2009).

Tells us what works – and what doesn’t

His initiative has grown into the Cochrane Collaboration, an international, non-profit, independent organization whose mission is to develop up-to-date, accurate information about the effectiveness of health interventions and make it available worldwide (the Cochrane Collaboration). Cochrane articles give us an overview of what works and what doesn't.

Both you and I can get answers

The Norwegian state has entered into an agreement where they pay for free access for everyone with a Norwegian IP address. This means that both you and I can go in and search for information. For example, if you want to see if there has been any research on antioxidants and fertility, you go into Cochrane Summaries and search for “antioxidants fertility”. This will bring up articles that summarize the research that has been done on this, and present it in “good Norwegian”, that is, in an easily understandable language that most people can understand.

If you use our services, you should know that we base our work on this type of well-founded research. We are also curious, interested in technology and open to new methods. This means that we also use new methods as long as we believe they are good and are sure that they are not harmful.
