Single and want children – how do I proceed?
In the past, single women had to travel to Denmark to get help getting pregnant. Many people think that's still the case, but that's not true.
We offer assisted fertilization with donor sperm and have been helping single women who want to have children since August 2020.
But what really happens when a single woman wants to get pregnant with assisted reproduction?

The criteria for singles seeking assisted reproduction
The criteria for receiving assisted fertilization with donor sperm are more or less the same for single women as for lesbian and heterosexual couples:
- Provide a childcare certificate and be assessed as having good caregiving abilities
- Normal HIV/hepatitis blood tests and hormone tests
- The woman undergoing treatment should not be older than 43 years old, but we make individual assessments of 44- and 45-year-olds.
The process
- You can contact us by submit a form or call.
- Before your first consultation, you will have a blood test. This provides us with valuable information.
- You will come in for a gynecological consultation, where we will examine your uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes.
- During the consultation, we will find out which method we would recommend to you, which gives you the best chance of success.
IVF or insemination?
We offer both insemination (often abbreviated AID or IUI) and IVF treatment with donor sperm to help single women get pregnant. Based on the preliminary examinations (fertility check) we do beforehand, we recommend the right treatment for you.
Insemination of donor sperm
During insemination, we inject purified donor sperm using a catheter. We do this at the time of ovulation. We determine when ovulation has occurred by monitoring the cycle, ultrasound and ovulation tests.
Some women will need stimulation with medication to ensure egg development and ovulation. Otherwise, we perform the insemination in a natural cycle.
For some, insemination is not an option due to findings in the fertility check.
IVF with donor sperm
With IVF, we start the treatment with a stimulation period of normally 10–14 days. After just over two weeks, we retrieve the egg and fertilize it in the laboratory before putting it back into the woman a few days later.

After two nerve-wracking weeks, whether IVF or insemination has been done, you can take a pregnancy test at home or request a blood test (which gives a more accurate answer) to see if we have been successful in getting you pregnant.
