MedicusPodden
MedicusPodden is a podcast about fertility and women's health.
We at Medicus have always been happy to share our knowledge. We contribute with courses and teaching for GPs and gynecologists, we have had our own blog since 2010 and we have published the magazine Mirakel in two editions.
Often, you can sit and listen to our skilled professionals explain professional issues to patients, colleagues or other partners, and think: “Others should have heard this too!” In 2019, we therefore launched our own podcast. Since then, we have heard from not only our own, but also from experienced professionals outside our own walls.
You can listen to MedicusPodden on iTunes og Spotify or watch the videos below.
Topic we are talking about
Patient stories

First episode of three where we talk to Lene Sleperud and Tonje Frøystad Garvik about the process before and during treatment, the mental aspect, vulnerable topics related to assisted fertilization and much more.
We hear about their experiences with assisted reproduction, and their path to the child of their dreams.
The first episode focuses on the time before starting treatment and the assessment process.

Second episode of three where fertility coach Mari talks to Lene and Tonje about their experiences with assisted reproduction, and their path to the child of their dreams.
The focus of the episode is the actual treatment Lene and Tonje went through. They talk about why they went straight to IVF treatment and skipped insemination, how they experienced the process, the emotions that arise, and the vulnerable moments and challenges they faced along the way.

Third and final episode where fertility coach Mari talks to Lene and Tonje about their experiences with assisted reproduction and their path to the child of their dreams.
Today they talk about the phase everyone during fertility treatment reaches for and works towards, the long-awaited pregnancy. It doesn't necessarily have to be filled with joy and good feelings. “You try to be happy and think now we're there, but you still have that little worry.”
Tonje shares her thoughts on being a co-mother, and they talk about topics such as early ultrasound and NIPT tests, exercise during pregnancy, body image and self-esteem.
In today's episode, fertility coach Mari visits Julie and Camilla Lorentzen. Some of you may know the couple through social media. They have built up a large following on Instagram, TikTok and Youtube. The couple has been with us for IVF treatment and have had a beautiful boy. In the episode, you will hear how the treatment has been for Julie and Camilla.
What has it been like being open on social media when you have to deal with your own emotions? What do these two ladies think has been the most challenging part of the process and what helped when things got difficult? They share openly and honestly about their journey. Maybe you will recognize yourself in some of what they have to say.
We can't wait to share this episode with you!

Marielle and Emil talk about their long, and at times difficult, path to the child they want in conversation with fertility coach Mari.
Both couples who have not yet started the process and couples who are well underway may be unsure and face problems and challenges that come with being involuntarily childless. Hearing about other people's experiences and stories can often be nice and helpful for couples who are involuntarily childless.
We are incredibly happy that Marielle and Emil want to share their story.
In this episode of MedicusPodden, Mari is visited by a former patient, Siv Helen. She has been treated with us and is now the mother of a boy who is just over three months old. In the episode, Siv Helen shares her story. She talks about her thoughts and experiences of undergoing IVF treatment as a single, and what it is like to be a single mother. She hopes to inspire other singles with a strong desire for children to dare to take the step.
In this episode we meet Kjetil and Nina, who have received treatment at Medicus Trondheim. The road to having children took an unexpected turn for this couple. After trying on their own for six years, Kjetil took a sperm test. The result was brutal – no sperm cells were found. From then until today, the journey has been painful, difficult and tough, but there is hope. Today they have one child and are expecting their second in mid-July.
The couple openly shares their story on the podcast, including their thoughts, reactions, and feelings. They want to make it easier for others in the same situation and contribute to more openness about male infertility. This is a powerful and important episode you don't want to miss.

Fertility
We spoke to Professor Sheena Lewis from Examen in England about male fertility. Sheena is a professor of reproductive medicine at Queens University Belfast, and is one of the leading researchers on male fertility in Europe.
Male fertility is more than just the number of sperm cells and their motility. It is also about the cells' DNA and information about it may be relevant to provide better assessment and treatment.
We talk about how to test male fertility, what you can do yourself to increase your fertility, and how this testing can help improve fertility treatment.
We spoke to the medical director and founder of Medicus, Terje Sørdal, about the fertility check. Whether you have tried to get pregnant without success, or if you just want to plan for the future, you can take a fertility check to check your fertility. If you are interested in in-depth knowledge about hormone levels and the blood tests that are taken, this is the episode for you. But we also talk more generally about the process itself, what examinations are carried out and what you can expect.
Fertility coaching
We talk to fertility coach Mari Fevaag Heger.
In her conversations with couples in the IVF process, Mari sees that there are certain themes that recur. We delve into the theme that comes up most often; the feeling of lack of control. Fertility coach Mari Fevaag Heger talks about the emotional aspect of IVF.
The latest episode of MedicusPodden is a slightly shorter episode with fertility coach Mari, this time without a guest in the studio.

Maybe you know someone who is going through such a process? Then we recommend you listen to the episode to gain more insight into their situation and tips on how you can talk about the topic.
