Partner donation

Partner donation was allowed in Norway from January 01.01.2021, XNUMX. This means that if you are a woman and are in a relationship with another woman, you can receive donated eggs from your partner.

When the changes to the Biotechnology Act came in 2020, egg donation from a partner had to be medically justified. This was changed in May 2021, so that women in same-sex couples can choose which of the women will become pregnant with the couple's child, without there being a medical reason.

Why partner donation?

Some women have ovaries that do not produce eggs, either for genetic reasons, due to age or premature menopause. Sometimes the egg quality is so impaired or the egg quantity is so reduced that the probability of success is minimal. If this woman is to become pregnant, she must receive eggs from another woman. The egg is fertilized with sperm from donor and is returned to the uterine cavity to develop after hormonal pre-treatment of the uterine lining, so that it is ready to receive a fertilized egg.

Who can receive a partner donation?

Partner donation is only applicable for two women.

Previously, partner donation was not allowed in Norway, but after changes to the Biotechnology Act in 2020, it has become possible for two women living together in a relationship to donate eggs to each other.
