New technology at Medicus provides increased safety in the laboratory

As the first, and currently only, clinic in Scandinavia, Medicus has implemented RI Witness – a system for electronic monitoring of all steps in a test tube treatment.

This is how it works

When you are undergoing IVF, your cells are placed in dishes and tubes for processing in the laboratory. Now that we have this system, we use small radio frequency identification (RFID) tags that we attach to all of these dishes and tubes where your cells and tissue are located. All dishes are linked to a personal ID card that you will be given by the clinic during treatment. When you come for egg retrieval and transfer with us, we insert your card into a card reader located in our operating rooms. This locks our workstations in the laboratory in such a way that an alarm is set off in the laboratory if dishes from other patients are placed in the area where we are working.

The benefit for you

The purpose of this is to have electronic quality assurance in addition to the human one. This makes it even less likely that errors will occur, such as for example the exchange of sperm cells or embryos. The likelihood of this happening anyway is extremely small because we have strict procedures and a good quality system in place, but it is still an area that cannot be taken seriously enough and that is why we have installed the system in all our clinics.

The advantage for you is that you can be confident that, in addition to our strict routines based on human quality assurance, we have an electronic system that monitors every step in the process where we work with your cells.
