Neurologist
Our experienced neurologist in Trondheim can help you with a comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment of various neurological conditions, such as headaches, back pain, numbness, epilepsy and driving license assessment after seizures. You do not need a referral and we have a short waiting time.
What does a neurologist do?
A neurologist is a specialist in diseases that occur in the nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, nerves and their connections to muscles. Symptoms such as numbness, tingling, unsteadiness or difficulty functioning can sometimes be signs of a neurological condition. A neurologist can help you with the evaluation and treatment of various neurological conditions, and offer precise diagnostics and treatment.
This involves assessment of, among other things:
Numbness, tingling, unsteadiness and functional difficulties
Symptoms such as numbness, tingling, difficulty functioning in the arms or legs, and unsteadiness may be signs of a neurological condition. A neurologist can help clarify whether these symptoms are due to a neurological cause and can offer precise diagnostics and treatment to manage the condition.
Back pain is one of the most common health complaints and a leading cause of disability. Acute back pain with obvious functional impairment, such as loss of strength or impact on bladder or bowel function, requires immediate contact with a doctor, for example via emergency room. Common causes of back pain are muscular conditions. If there are symptoms of pinched nerves/radiating pain from the back to an arm or leg, or back pain persists over time, a neurologist can assess your condition.
Headache
We offer neurological evaluation for various types of headaches, including migraines and facial pain. You will receive a thorough examination to find the correct diagnosis, and we will tailor the treatment to you.
Epilepsy
Seizures, convulsions and loss of consciousness can have many causes. Our neurologist has specialist expertise in epilepsy and also have extensive experience in differentiating epilepsy from other conditions that can cause seizures. We offer thorough assessment and diagnostics, and optimization of treatment for epilepsy.
Driver's license assessment after seizure
In connection with previous epileptic seizures or loss of consciousness where a driver's license has been revoked, our neurologist can perform a driver's license assessment, usually after a year of being seizure-free.
Parkinson's disease
Tremors, stiffness and gradual development of movement problems can be signs of Parkinson's disease. Our neurologist has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating Parkinson's disease.
Neuropathies
Neuropathies are injuries, diseases or irritations of the nerves that can lead to numbness, tingling, burning or pain, especially in the hands and feet. Sometimes the patient also experiences unsteadiness as part of neuropathy. We offer thorough diagnostics and treatment to relieve, manage and slow down these symptoms.
How does a consultation with a neurologist take place?

1. Initial conversation
The consultation starts with a conversation where the neurologist asks you about your symptoms, how long they have lasted, and whether they have developed over time. The neurologist will also ask about your medical history, family history, any other illnesses, injuries, and what medications you are taking and any medications you have tried for the same condition in the past.

2. Neurological examination
After the conversation, a physical examination is carried out that focuses on the nervous system, often targeted and adapted to the patient's symptoms.

3. Blood test
If blood tests are needed, these can be taken at our facility.

4. Diagnostic tests
Depending on the findings from the interview and physical examination, the neurologist may refer you for further diagnostic tests. Further diagnostic tests may include imaging tests such as MRI, electrodiagnostic tests such as electroencephalography (EEG) to evaluate brain activity, or neurophysiological testing to assess muscle and nerve function. If such tests have been ordered prior to the consultation, the neurologist will review these.

5. Diagnosis and treatment plan.
After gathering sufficient information, the neurologist will provide a preliminary diagnosis or assessment of your condition. Based on this diagnosis, a treatment plan is developed that may include medical treatment, physical therapy, lifestyle changes, or referral to other specialists if necessary.

6. Follow-up
The neurologist will often recommend a check-up to assess how the treatment is working, adjust the treatment plan if necessary, and monitor any changes in symptoms.
