Mental health in fertility treatment

Going through a fertility process can be one of the most challenging things you can experience in life. It is normal to feel emotionally overwhelmed and mentally tired. It can also affect concentration, relationships and relationships. Sometimes asking for help is the best way to take care of ourselves.

At Medicus, we are committed to providing holistic care. We know that your emotional and mental health is important. Both for how you feel now and how you stand in what lies ahead. Support along the way can make the journey easier, safer and less lonely.
That's why we offer two forms of emotional support, so you can find what suits you best.

Our two fertility coaching offerings

1:1 conversations with a fertility coach – physically at the clinic or via video

1:1 conversations are for those of you who want personal support from a professional who knows the fertility field well. Mari Fevaag Heger is our fertility coach and has extensive experience in the field. She has spoken to and helped thousands of other people in the same situation. In addition, she has personal experience with IVF, and has experienced many of the same thoughts and feelings that you are having.

In conversations with Mari you will get:

  • A safe space to share thoughts and feelings with someone who understands
  • Knowledge about mental health in the face of infertility
  • Help to sort thoughts and feelings
  • Tools for dealing with stress, grief, waiting and uncertainty
  • Support through specific phases of treatment
  • Opportunity to strengthen your communication with your partner and other relationships
  • Focus on self-care, balance and mental resilience

The conversations are always tailored to you and your situation. If you are a couple, you can also book a conversation with Mari together.

You can find a time that suits you via our online booking. If you are a couple, both of you can participate in the conversation if you wish.

I find that talking to a professional who has also gone through IVF is crucial to having the strength to handle the process. In our conversations, I experience being met with a good balance between empathy, honesty and constructiveness. It has helped me gain perspective and made me feel less abnormal and lonely.

For me, having Mari as a coach has been crucial. She has helped me understand my own feelings and reaction patterns, which has enabled me to stand firm in this process to a much greater extent than I would have done without Mari. She is warm, caring, a good conversationalist and very knowledgeable.

The first conversation turned everything upside down for us. The therapist taught us a lot about involuntary infertility, and the different phases couples go through during a trial period.
