IVF treatment

IVF treatment is a type of treatment that helps couples who are having difficulty getting pregnant. In IVF treatment, the woman is stimulated with hormones to produce more eggs. The eggs are then retrieved and fertilized in the laboratory. After a few days, the fertilized and dividing egg, also known as an embryo, is returned to the uterus.

We often get several good quality embryos during IVF treatment. We normally transfer one, while the rest are frozen. These can be thawed and transferred back in a later natural or lightly stimulated cycle. This is called FER (Frozen Embryo Replacement).

Examinations before IVF treatment

Before we recommend IVF treatment, we conduct thorough preliminary investigations to determine whether there is a need and to determine which type of treatment is best for you.

How to get started

First we need to know as much as possible about you and your situation. The first step in any treatment process is therefore a fertility check . The fertility check gives us answers about how things are and what the way forward is.

Sampling

We will ask you to take blood tests and a sperm sample. You can take these with us or with a local doctor. Based on the blood tests (including FSH and AMH ), we can assess the woman's ovaries and rule out the risk of infectious diseases. The sperm sample tells us something about the man's fertility. If your partner is a woman, we will discuss the choice of donor when you have decided on treatment.

When you start taking the tests, we will make an appointment with one of our gynecologists.

Visit to the gynecologist

In addition to sampling, a gynecological examination and an ultrasound examination of the woman's uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes will be performed , as well as a closer examination of the man if sperm quality is impaired. If you live far away, this can be done at one of our collaborating gynecologists.

Assessment and the way forward

Based on the results of the assessment, we will advise you on the way forward. Perhaps you should continue trying on your own or start with assisted reproduction. In that case, we will advise you on which type of assisted reproduction is best for you.
