Frequently Asked Questions
You may be wondering…
Here are the questions we most often get about endometriosis.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book an appointment with our gynecologists directly, without a referral from your GP.
Can endometriosis be seen on ultrasound?
In some cases, endometriosis and adenomyosis can be detected by ultrasound. Since there are no blood tests that can detect the disease, keyhole surgery (laparoscopy) remains the gold standard for a definitive diagnosis.
Does endometriosis affect fertility?
Yes, endometriosis can affect fertility by reducing egg quality, damaging the fallopian tubes, or making implantation more difficult if endometriosis is present in the uterus. Therefore, women with endometriosis need fertility treatment more often than others.
How is the diagnosis made?
The evaluation usually begins with a conversation and a gynecological examination, including an ultrasound. For a completely certain diagnosis, a laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) is required.
What treatments are available?
Treatment is tailored to the degree of discomfort and pain, and often consists of a combination of painkillers, hormonal treatment and possibly surgery. Our gynecologists will work with you to find the treatment that best suits your situation.
